Daypop 404, WTF?

A sad day: I just deleted DayPop Top 40 from my shortlist of Firefox bookmarks. For years, I would tell people it’s my favorite resource on the Web. I know that there were other similar resources (WTF? I just see that Blogdex is also on the fritz?), but for whatever reason Daypop was always my favorite. But it’s been 404 for months. It was Web 2.0 before its time. What’s next? Flickr? Delicious? All the other too-good-to-be-true fun sites out there? (And, while I’m at it, curse you Nick Denton for spiking Screenhead, my other favorite site!)

Crete Is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful

Tropical Beach

Blogging from an Internet cafe in Crete, Greece, on the last evening of a wonderful vacation, via a very slow wifi connection. More photos and commentary coming when I have a better connection. Meanwhile, enjoy these.

Yeah, I’m supposed to be writing up commentary to go with this. Believe me, I took lots of notes. But that’s extra work. Enjoy the pictures.

Budapest on Fire

Some regular readers know I have a bit of a Hungary fetish (lived there, married there, vacation there, speak it badly, lots of Hunkie friends, etc.). Some readers may also know that Hungary has been gripped by political violence in the last few days. Sad. Disgraceful. Pathetic. No one dead. “It’s like a Fradi match,” says my wife, referring to a particularly roudy Budapest football/soccer team.

If you’ve come here looking for any update, I’m on vacation. In Crete, Greece, no less. (Photos and commentary forthcoming.)

Meanwhile, the best coverage, as per usual, is on Pestiside (whose editor, Erik D’Amato, I had the pleasure of dining with barely a week ago, formerly an Internet-only friendship). Wortwhile photos also on Index.hu.

Milio Puszi Budapest Week-re

I know my Hungarian sucks, so if anyone wants to correct my headline for this item, please feel free. The point is, the Budapest Week reunion party, and after-party, rocked long and hard! What an awesome collection of people.

Steve Carlson said it best: “Budapest Week was a newspaper that knew how to throw a party.”

More coverage on Pestiside.
