Portishead, WTF?

dummy.jpg

I’m listening to Dummy. Seminal, I think you’d have to call it. They’re simply so good, they should all be tragically dead or something. But they’re not. They’re alive and well and living in England and they’ve only put out two goddamn studio albums in their career and the last , and the last one was seven years ago.

I used to hunt around their fan sites and Rolling Stone and such looking for an update on when their next fabled album is due out, and it always ends in tears.

Anyone want to cheer me up with some lies about how it’s due out soon?

That album always make me think of the after hours dirty dancing I did one night with a chick named Kriszta in the Tilos az A. She was a waitress somewhere I used to frequent, way hot, and I think she started dating a junky soon after our late night grinding.

That something could have such grooves and yet set such a mood. Yes, the first album is breathtaking. The second one, however, was a real disappointment.

Beth Gibbons recorded an album called Out of Season, I’ll burn it on DVD-R for you.

Drew, what’s wrong with the second album? I also love that one.

Hmmm, maybe I’ll give it a second chance. It just didn’t grab me like the first one.

Speaking of seminal, did you ever get into the first MC Solaar? Or how about the first Wolfgang Press?

These are all in my top ten albums of the 90s, highly inspired by the listening habits of Sir Dupla V.

I don’t own either one of the albums, but I’ve had sex to Portishead enough times that I remember the words. Fantastic. -F
