The Day After Tomorrow
|
Dad emails this Guardian story about the upcoming film The Day After Tomorrow, from Independence Day director Roland Emmerich, which the Guardian speculates could rock the Bush campaign with its terrifying depiction of extreme weather events caused by global warming and the presidential adminstration that moves too slowly to take the threat seriously.
Sounds like wishful thinking on the part of the Guardian to believe that the movie could actually help unseat the Bush administration in November, but the trailer is cool. |

Yeah, I agree. I don’t think this movie is about to unseat any presidents. But I do think that it could - even with all its schlock and bad science and sheer cheeziness - offer an opportunity to talk about some real issues which haven’t been getting much attention recently.
To wit, some takes we found:
the day after tomorrow as an opportunity to raise questions
move on and the day after tomorrow
environmentalists and day after tomorrow
bill mckibben day after tomorrow
I just saw it today and it was a fun movie. Good effects, despite the bit of cheesy science policy. I have a brief review on my blog, but it was an enjoyable summer blockbuster even if you think the science has been debunked.
