What Year Is This?

I just heard on NPR a report about a trial in Oakland, CA, about the acquittal of three cops accused of false arrests, abuse and other wrong-doings against a group of alleged victims. What shocked me about this case is not the jury’s conclusion — this is the first I have heard of the case, so I don’t know any details (SF Chronical story) — but that all of the alleged victims were black, yet not a single juror was black, despite 36% of Oakland’s population being black. What is this, the 1950s?
